Lake Wikaremoana Great Walk

Hey to all of you,

Things are quite complicated at the moment concerning our trip: soon the Easter holiday will begin, not everything is planned yet and communication is only possible via Email, as the ICYE phones unexpectedly got cut off today. It could take some time get them working again, therefore we have to communicate via email - hopefully you all check your emails from time to time!!

For those of you who do not know yet: The Canoe trip for Easter had to be canceled: not enough canoes available. I talked to Minsik and we decided to shift this trip to the next longer weekend, 24th(evening)-27th of April . All of you who are still interested in it should make up their minds – I have to book by the beginning of next week and then we will go there, no matter what the weather will be like..

As Easter is one of the last holidays for those who arrived last year, we definitely want to do the Waikaremoana Great Walk this weekend - 21-23th of March.
From the following people I need to know as soon as possible, who of you will DEFINITELY! join the tour (to get transport, tents, food etc. sorted)!!
Thomas (Matamata), Minsik & two German girls from Napier, Céline

There is not much time left, so please answer me quickly – otherwise I can’t count you!
Mie (Denmark, ICYE) and her friend Riikka (ICYE) already confirmed – as well as myself of course.

We would start driving to the Lake on Friday in the afternoon (2 pm). Can someone of you offer conveyance to the Lake – otherwise I’ll think of something else. Who has got a tent or a cooker?
As soon as I receive your answers, I will let you know how everything will work with transport, times, tent space, food, ..

Hope hearing very soon from you, sorry that this is quite stressful so far...
Looking forward to the tour with you, seba

PS: here is a recommended packing list..

· sleeping bag and –mat
· tent – if possible
· cooker/ portable stove – if possible
· cooking pot (one for two people is enough!)
· warm, windproof and rainproof jacket, rain trousers?, hat and gloves? ( Cotton clothing is not suitable, this includes jeans)
· sturdy boots (Sports trainers might be possible as well, however they might get wet!!)
· one long and short trousers
· sunscreen, sun hat and sunglasses
· tissue (for yourself;)
· your ICYE phone (no matter if it does not work)
· enough drinking water for Friday/ Saturday/ Sunday – also for your cooking; there are sometimes water tanks at the huts which you could use as well after you have boiled it. However make sure you bring between 4 and 6 liter water with you!
· food ,also snacks
· plastic cup, plate and cutlery
· tog and towel
· clasp-knife and flashlight
· medicine?, etc.

Consider during your packing – the more you bring with you, the more you have to carry!!! If you have any further questions, please write me an email (seba.cadus@web.de).

(Hierzu gibt es leider noch keine Bilder, aber ich werde berichten!…=)
